- What is the definition of organic?
- The word "organic"
refers to the method in which our crops and livestock are raised and
processed. When you see organic on one of our labels, you know
that we are dedicated to maintaining a safe and healthy environment
not only for ourselves, but also for the animals we raise.
This involves eliminating the use of all synthetic chemicals, growth
hormones, insecticides, pesticides, etc, in the production of our
beef products. This chemical -free standard is also used in
the way we raise our crops, which provides us with organic forages for
our cattle.
- How is "certified organic" beef superior to "natural" beef?
- Did you know that ANY FRESH
meat qualifies as "natural" according to the USDA? To state
that one's product is certified organic, however, requires a much
more strict code of standards and ethics. We have independent
agents that come to annually certify our land, animals, and packaging
facility. What's more our processing facilities must meet standards
of cleanliness that are far more stringent than the standards for
the conventional beef industry.
- What healthy benefits are derived
from our grass-fed/grass-finished beef?
- Most of today's US feedlots use feeds that are up to 90% grain.
Cattle grow about three times faster on such a diet as they would
with hay. Although it takes us additional weeks or even months
for our grass fed cattle to reach the desired market weight, we
believe that beef, in its natural grass-fed state is the health food
of the highest order.
- As Dr Joseph Mercola says on his website:
- Grass-fed beef are naturally leaner than grain-fed beef
- Grass-fed beef has the recommended ratio of Omega 6 to Mega 3
fatty acids, 3:1, where some grain-fed cattle exceed the ratio at
20:1
- Grass-fed beef is loaded with other natural minerals and
vitamins and is a great source of CLA (conjugated linoleic acid).
This fat reduces the risk of cancer, obesity, diabetes and a number
of immune disorders.
- For further information please see Dr Mercola's web site at
http://www.mercola.com
- How do we ensure the quality of our beef during
shipping?
- Once vacuum-sealed and flash frozen, our beef is packed in dry
ice and shipped to your home. We also offer free local
delivery from our farm.
- What is sustainable agriculture?
- Lynn Brakke is
committed to sustainable agriculture. This is a practical and
philosophical system of farming which evolves around the responsible
stewardship of land and animals.
- The goals of sustainable farming
management practices are to produce food in a way which is
- environmentally safe and sound
- economically viable
- humane for the animal
- Our farms are managed so that the natural
biological cycles of all resources (plants, trees, livestock,
wildlife, water, soil, sunshine etc.) are in sync with one another to
the benefit of all. The efficient use of non-renewable resources and
the non-reliance on chemicals are also part of the system.
In Lynn's own words, "We farm the land so the soil will never be
depleted. We are taking care of it so it can be farmed forever."
- What happens when one of our organic
calves gets sick?
- The calf is removed from the herd and treated for the
illness. It is completely removed from the organic program and
will not be used for our beef production.
All this careful production delivers meat of such
high quality that many people who eat our Organic Beef not
only enjoy
the flavorful experience, but are assured of a healthy choice. |
